NABTU continued its nationwide Opportunity Pipeline tour with an event in Pittsburgh, PA, at Ironworkers Local 3.

This event featured several great speakers, including Mayor Ed Gainey, State Rep. Nick Pisciottano, PennDOT Executive Deputy Secretary Larry Shifflet, Pittsburgh Gateways ARP Director Chiquita Barnett, and several success stories from rank-and-file members on how joining the trades changed their life. Prior to the speaking program, the event also included tours of the Ironworkers Local 3 Training Center to get a first-hand look at the world-class training that the building trades provide.

WESA Pittsburgh – As part of their national “Opportunity Pipeline Tour”, North America’s Building Trades Unions made a stop in Pittsburgh on Thursday to recognize the region’s workforce development… Pittsburgh is one of five cities the Biden-Harris Administration is attempting to funnel investments and incentives toward via the federal actions including the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act. It’s part of the administration’s economic growth strategy to create workforce hubs by encouraging private and public partnerships.

Pittsburgh Union Progress – Contrary to the belief in some circles, McGarvey said, studies have shown union workers are 14% more productive that nonunion workers and they are 4% less expensive to hire.
