USACE Denies Permit for Dakota Access Pipeline Construction

WASHINGTON, DC – The following statement was issued today by North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) in reaction to the decision by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to halt any further construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions are disappointed yet again by the actions of the US Army Corps of Engineers to halt further construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.  Our unions have a history of working to benefit the economic prospects of tribal members in this region, and have always been fully committed to completing the construction of this pipeline in the safest, sensitive and most environmentally conscious manner possible.

“At every juncture, the Dakota Access Pipeline has met or exceeded each and every environmental standard established by four states and the federal government.  Recently, a federal judge confirmed this by ruling that the project was in compliance with all U.S. rules and regulations.  The fact that we are even having to issue this statement today is a testament to crass political maneuverings combined with big government decision-making at its worst.

“Our unions stand ready to work constructively and expeditiously with the incoming Administration to find an amicable solution which ensures that the Dakota Access Pipeline, along with similar energy infrastructure projects across the nation, are constructed according to the rule of law and which produce middle class jobs that are so vital to the continued economic growth for the United States.”
