NABTU COMMENDS THE SURFACE TRANSPORTATION REAUTHORIZATION ACT OF 2021

Washington, D.C. – May 26, 2021 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement commending the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act of 2021:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions commend the bipartisan leadership of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works for their work on the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act of 2021.  This bill represents a vital first step in the passage of a desperately needed broad-based infrastructure package. The roughly $304 billion in funding provided in this legislation, the largest ever considered by the Committee, will provide meaningful, and greatly needed, investments in our nation’s transportation infrastructure, creating millions of job opportunities for building trades members across the country.

“The safest and most highly skilled construction workforce in the world is ready to deliver safer, more efficient transportation infrastructure that will incorporate new technologies and lay a foundation for sustained economic growth across the nation, building back better and stronger as we continue to emerge from the Covid-19 economy.  We look forward to continuing to work with the Committee as this bill moves forward.”
