NABTU STATEMENT HONORING ON DON YOUNG
Washington, D.C. – March 29, 2022 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:
“The State of Alaska, the men and women of the building trades who live and work in The Last Frontier, and every building trades member across the United States, lost a true champion with the passing of Congressman Don Young.
“As Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Representative Young spearheaded the passage of SAFETEA-LU, a critical highway bill that opened doors of opportunity to countless workers seeking a better, more secure career in the construction trades. His vote last year to support the $1.2 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act demonstrated how one should rise above politics when the needs of the country are great and require bold action. His stalwart commitment to the Alaskan energy industry provided generations of Alaskan building trades members stable, family-supporting careers powering our nation.
“Lying in State in the United States Capitol is a fitting tribute to a steadfast leader whose contributions to his state and its people, and indeed the entire nation, will long be felt and remembered.”
