NORTH AMERICA’S BUILDING TRADES UNIONS APPLAUD SHUSTER INFRASTRUCTURE PROPOSAL

Washington, D.C. – July 25, 2018 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) issued a statement from President Sean McGarvey on the infrastructure bill discussion draft released by U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman, Bill Shuster (PA-09):

“I want to applaud Chairman Shuster for putting together a thoughtful proposal to address our nation’s infrastructure challenges. This proposal merits a serious discussion by Congress.  I specifically want to commend him for laying the foundation for a path forward to sustain the Highway Trust Fund.

“NABTU members have called for a robust, broad-based, infrastructure plan from both the current Congress and Administration.  A strong national infrastructure is indeed the foundation for economic growth in communities large and small across our nation, and we will continue to demand and work with all interested parties to move such a plan forward.  The jobs created by such a plan will provide ladders of opportunity into the middle-class – especially for women, communities of color and military veterans – and will lead to economic development in communities that desperately need it.

“Chairman Shuster’s leadership in crafting this proposal should serve as a model for all Members of Congress, and I sincerely thank him for his effort.”
