President Trump Headlines Day 2 of Building Trades Unions Conference
“We’re a nation of builders,” President says
WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald J. Trump today addressed the 2017 Legislative Conference of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU). In remarks delivered to a full ballroom of roughly 3,000 national, state, and local building trades union leaders and rank-and-file members, President Trump renewed his Administration’s commitment to advancing a comprehensive package of infrastructure investments.
“I’m calling on all Americans, Democrat, Republican and Independent, to take part in the great re-building of America,” said the President.
President Trump went on to urge the delegates to send a specific message to the US Congress.
With respect to re-building our nation’s infrastructure and ensuring strong community wage and benefit standards, the President said “You have come to Washington to meet with members of the House and members of the Senate. When you see them you can tell them that America’s building trades unions and America’s President are very much united.”
Delegates to the NABTU Legislative Conference also heard from a wide array of other elected officials, including: Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), Rep. Linda Sanchez (D-CA), Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY), Congressional Black Caucus Chair Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA), Governor Larry Hogan (R-MD), Rep. Peter King (R-NY), and Sen. Joseph Donnelly (D-IN).
“We are honored that President Trump took the time to be with us today,” said Sean McGarvey, President of NABTU. “It was reassuring to hear that he and his Administration remain committed to working with Congress to fulfill his campaign promises of re-building American infrastructure and advancing America’s energy infrastructure – both of which create tremendous job opportunities for the men and women of North America’s Building Trades Unions. On behalf of the more than three million skilled craft professionals that we represent, we look forward to working with President Trump and members of Congress from both parties to push a robust infrastructure package that includes strong community wage and benefit protections.”
