North America’s Building Trades Unions Applaud Federal Infrastructure Initiatives

WASHINGTON, DC – The following statement was released today by North America’s Building Trades Unions:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions are pleased that a bi-partisan discussion has commenced with regard to the critical issue of America’s infrastructure needs, and we commend both President Trump and U.S. congressional leadership for elevating this issue to the level of priority that it has long deserved.

“Our members and our unions have long lamented the state of our nation’s vast infrastructure needs, many of which go well beyond road and bridge repair to include our energy infrastructure, our electric power delivery systems, our schools, and our drinking water systems.

“After years of partisan acrimony in Washington, DC, the time has come to engage in serious terms about investing in our nation’s infrastructure.

“Whether it’s a Democratic or Republican President, or a Democratic or Republican Congress, or a Democratic or Republican infrastructure plan, North America’s Building Trades Unions are always interested in working with policy makers who are equally concerned about investments that lead to the creation of good paying jobs with solid health and retirement benefits, along with opportunities for career training and education through formal apprenticeship programs.

“We applaud the leadership of both political parties for taking this important first step.”
