NABTU Statement Honoring Veterans Day 2020

Washington, DC – November 11, 2020 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement honoring Veterans Day 2020:

“This Veterans Day, North America’s Building Trades Unions and our 3 million members honor the brave men and women who have fought to protect our great nation. All of us in the building trades respect and value the selfless commitment of our troops to serve domestically and across the globe. The desperate attempts during this election to prevent veterans and active duty members from having their voice heard and vote counted were heartbreaking and appalling. All of us must keep fighting for voter rights and fair elections. We owe it to the veterans, the men and women fighting for us today, and the ones who will serve with valor tomorrow.

“Furthermore, it’s essential that each of us does all we can to support our military members not only when they are serving, but also when they return to civilian life. That’s why NABTU takes such pride in our Helmets to Hardhats program, helping military veterans transition into family-sustaining careers in union construction. In 2019 alone, Helmets to Hardhats successfully assisted in the transition of 3,369 veterans. We’ll continue to do all we can each and every day to support these remarkable men and women throughout their journey.

“As we pause to thank, honor and remember our veteran members and all veterans this day; as we are humbled by their sacrifice and service, let’s all learn from and pay forward their selfless patriotism during these tumultuous times as we strive to be a more unified and healed nation.
