NABTU Statement Urging the Confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. Labor Secretary

Washington, D.C. – February 6, 2025 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) and the millions of hardworking men and women we represent, we urge the United States Senate to swiftly confirm Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor.

“As a daughter of a Teamster and throughout her career, Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer has demonstrated an understanding of the challenges facing American workers and the vital role the Department of Labor plays in ensuring fair wages, strong workplace standards, and the right to collective bargaining. She has consistently championed policies that strengthen worker protections, expand access to high-quality, middle-class careers, and support Registered Apprenticeship programs that build a strong, skilled workforce pipeline in the construction sector.

“With the skilled trades at the forefront of America’s economic and infrastructure expansion, we need a leader who will collaborate with labor and industry to advance policies that empower workers and strengthen our workforce. Her commitment to fostering economic growth through workforce development and infrastructure investment makes her uniquely qualified to lead the Department of Labor at this critical time.

“NABTU stands ready to work alongside Chavez-DeRemer and the Department of Labor to protect and uplift America’s working families, and we urge the Senate to confirm her without delay.”
