NABTU STATEMENT HONORING LABOR DAY 2022

Washington, D.C. – September 5, 2022 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement commemorating Labor Day and North America’s workers:

“This Labor Day, workers have a lot to celebrate. Over the past year and a half, proworker Administrations in both the United States and Canada delivered unprecedented investments prioritizing workers and their families at every step.

“The Canadian federal government worked diligently to make it more affordable for workers to travel where the jobs are, doubled workforce development investments, and is putting workers at the forefront of just transition consultations. In the U.S., President Biden and Congress delivered policy wins that invest over 1.2 trillion in America’s infrastructure, strengthen registered apprenticeship, restore retirement income for millions of workers, boost high-tech manufacturing, address climate change, and accelerate domestic energy production. These wins generate millions more middle-class, family-sustaining jobs and protect workers’ health, safety and wages throughout.

“These significant achievements will not only uplift North America’s workforce, union and nonunion, they will attract the next generation of skilled craft professionals to rebuild our nations and the middle class. This Labor Day, we celebrate these wins and endeavor to honor workers every day, reflecting on the sacrifices made by workers who came before us, paying tribute to the impact labor provides to North America’s strength, prosperity and freedom, and continuing the fight for a better tomorrow for all workers and their families.”
