Washington, D.C. – June 16, 2020 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement commending the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure for their leadership to bring forward a new surface transportation bill, the INVEST in America Act:

“I want to thank Chairman DeFazio and his staff for their efforts in crafting a surface transportation bill that will create millions of job opportunities for North America’s Building Trades Unions’ members across the nation rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure. The INVEST in America Act will provide the level of funding needed to lay the foundation for long term economic recovery as we emerge from this COVID-19 economy, and the Chairman’s commitment to ensuring strong prevailing wage labor standards throughout the bill must be commended.

“The action taken by the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure represents an important first step by the House of Representatives to move a comprehensive infrastructure package. NABTU looks forward to seeing this bill move through the legislative process, and will continue to work with all Members of the House and Senate to pass a bold, broad, bipartisan and robust infrastructure package that can be signed by the president.”
