NABTU Statement in Recognition of Black History Month

Washington, D.C. – February 1, 2021 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement in recognition of Black History Month:

“Every February, NABTU proudly joins the rest of the United States and Canada in celebration of Black History Month. It is a month of reflection, recognition, and honor. Above all, it serves as a much-needed occasion to underscore the countless contributions of Black people and communities around the world throughout history.

“For generations, these trailblazers have led the charge in shaping the labor and civil rights movements and the overarching fight for global equality. It’s imperative that we rightfully acknowledge these leaders of the past, present, and future who earnestly advocate for lasting respect, dignity, and opportunity for all, as they’re inspiring the betterment of humanity in a world desperately in need of it.

“This past year has been more than a call to action for all of us to build on the legacy of these true champions of change. We must honor them each and every day in our fight to ensure the American dream is accessible to everyone and progress civil rights, justice and equality for all.”
