Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2021 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement on the passage of the American Rescue Plan:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions applaud President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for the passing of the U.S. American Rescue Plan. Policies included in this relief package will deliver desperately-needed federal support for hard-working, poor and middle class Americans who have been desperately waiting for a life-line from their government. The Rescue Plan gives the American people the tools that they need to wrestle COVID-19 to its knees and finish the fight so that we may start to rebuild our shattered economy and a better future for all Americans.

“This measure will provide additional resources for testing, logistics, vaccine manufacturing and distribution. It will secure health care coverage, an unemployment extension, needed relief for millions of Americans’ post-retirement security, direct cash support for tens of millions of American families, and badly-needed state and local aid. This action taken by the federal government is exactly what the American people have been asking for and were desperate for their political leaders to deliver. The American Rescue Plan is a testament to elected officials who do what they say to the benefit of the whole, not useless rhetoric from others whose goals and actions appear to always benefit the few.
