NABTU STATEMENT ON THE 22ND ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

Washington, D.C. – September 11, 2023 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:

“On this solemn occasion, we pause to remember and reflect upon the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It has been 22 years since that fateful day when our nation was forever changed. The memories of the lives lost and the heroic sacrifices made by first responders and countless others are etched into the collective consciousness of our great nation.

“As members of the building trades, we are acutely aware of the impact that day had on our members, our industry and our communities. Many of our own brothers and sisters were among the brave individuals who rushed to the aid of those in need, putting their own lives on the line to help others. We honor their courage, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to their fellow citizens.

“In the aftermath of 9/11, the building trades played a crucial role in the reconstruction and recovery efforts. Our skilled tradespeople worked tirelessly to rebuild the physical and symbolic foundations of our nation, demonstrating the resilience and strength that define our industry.

“As we commemorate this anniversary today, let us all come together and be more open with our hearts and minds in service embodying the values that define us as a nation and industry. Let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles that bind America together: solidarity, community, and the pursuit of excellence.”
