NABTU CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Washington, D.C. – March 8, 2022 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement in celebration of International Women’s Day:
“Today, NABTU joins the rest of the world in celebration of International Women’s Day. This annual observance represents a special opportunity to honor the contributions and achievements of women throughout history.
“The impact of women within our unions and across our industry is significant and as strong as ever. We salute all of our tradeswomen and working women across the world, past and present, for your commitment and dedication on and off the jobsite. NABTU prioritizes building a more diverse workforce with ladders to the middle class for all. This includes our full support of gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow. There is no gender wage gap in the building trades. When you work under a building trades collective bargaining agreement, everyone gets paid equally no matter their gender. As we to continue to grow and add new members to our unions, we’re focusing on the recruitment and retention of women in our industry and among our ranks.
“We all must keep fighting to open more doors for girls and women to break glass ceilings across the world and stand up for decency, justice, and dignity for all. On behalf of North America’s Building Trades Unions, our 14 affiliate unions and over three million members, we wish you a happy International Women’s Day.”
