Washington, D.C. – April 28, 2021 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement applauding President Biden’s American Families Plan:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions applaud the American Families Plan introduced today by President Biden. This framework acknowledges that it is not enough to build back to where we were prior to the pandemic, but that we need bold investments in our economic future to take the much-needed strides to generate more opportunities for families to enter and stay in the middle class.

“The American Families Plan’s expansion of the Child Tax Credit is a significant inclusion in this package, as it will certainly play a vital role in our mission to continue to diversify the construction industry. NABTU prides itself on creating family-sustaining pathways to the middle class for all, and the proposed changes to the Child Tax Credit will help amplify these efforts. Not only does this credit lessen the tax burden on caregivers who are disproportionately women, but in doing so, it makes the pursuit of a full-time building trades career more attainable.

“The time is now to invest in American families again, and we look forward to working with the Administration and Congress on this proposal.”
