NABTU Statement on Observance of Memorial Day

Washington, DC – May 25, 2020 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement honoring Memorial Day 2020:

“This Memorial Day, North America’s Building Trades Unions and our 3 million members honor America’s greatest heroes and the ultimate sacrifices they’ve made fearlessly protecting our nation.

“As we remember the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. armed forces, and as we reflect on the selfless patriotism and bravery to give their lives in service to our country, we also honor our country’s newest frontline warriors who have exposed themselves to disease, and, in too many cases, sacrificed their lives in selfless service on behalf of every American during this unprecedented pandemic.  Whether it’s nurses, doctors, hospital workers, grocery store clerks, truck and delivery drivers, first responders or construction workers doing whatever it takes to build and maintain critical infrastructure in this time of need, these new warriors rushed in, risking their lives every day to fight for us and battling around the clock to protect and preserve our health and safety.

“Today, as we continue to battle through this ongoing crisis. we remember, honor, and pay tribute to all of these brave men and women  who have given their lives protecting us, yesterday, today and tomorrow.”
