Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Cardinal-Hickory Creek 345-Kilovolt (kV) Transmission Line Project in Iowa and Wisconsin

Background:  The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) has announced the availability of a Draft EIS for the proposed Cardinal-Hickory Creek 345-kV Transmission Line Project in Iowa and Wisconsin.  The project, as proposed by the Dairyland Power Cooperative, would involve the construction of a 345-kV transmission line and associated infrastructure connecting the Hickory Creek Substation in Dubuque County, Iowa with the Cardinal Substation in Middleton, Wisconsin (near Madison, Wisconsin).  The project would also include a new intermediate 345/138-kV substation near the Village of Montfort in either Grant County or Iowa County, Wisconsin.  The total length of the 345-kV transmission lines associated with the proposed project would be approximately 125 miles.

  • Comments are due within 60 days of December 7, 2018 and can be submitted via email to Lauren Cusick at Lauren.Cusick@usda.gov.  In conjunction with the release of this Draft EIS, RUS will host a series of related public scoping meetings as follows: (1) on January 22, 2019 at 1pm local time at the Peosta Community Center, 7896 Burds Road, Peosta, Iowa; (2) on January 22, 2019 at 6pm local time at the Guttenberg Municipal Building, 502 First Street, Guttenberg, Iowa; (3) on January 23, 2019 at 5pm local time in the Cassville Middle School Cafeteria, 715 E. Amelia Street, Cassville, Wisconsin; (4) on January 24, 2019 at 5pm local time in the Dodgeville Bowl Banquet Hall, 318 King Street, Dodgerville, Wisconsin; (5) on January 28, 2019 at 5pm local time at the Deer Valley Lodge, 401 West Industrial Drive, Barneveld, Wisconsin; and (6) on January 29, 2019 at 5pm local time at the Madison Marriott West, 1313 John Q. Hammonds Drive, Middleton, Wisconsin.  There is no requirement to RSVP in order to participate in these public scoping meetings.
