NABTU Statement on USMCA

Washington, D.C. – December 11, 2019 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) issued the following statement from President Sean McGarvey on the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA):

“NABTU applauds the bipartisan leadership of President Trump and Speaker Pelosi and commends the principled and committed work of Congressional leaders and the USTR to forge an agreement that will hopefully set new standards for trade negotiations. This agreement takes to heart the failures of NAFTA and provides a framework with real enforcement mechanisms that will help level the playing field and provide meaningful safeguards for workers, U.S. companies and entire communities. Our membership is encouraged that this bipartisan achievement demonstrates a capacity to forge consensus, and we remain hopeful this will foster goodwill to address challenges like our nation’s crumbling infrastructure that will require the attention and cooperation of the Administration and Members of Congress from both parties.”
