PRESIDENT MCGARVEY’S STATEMENT ON 17TH ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11

Washington, D.C. – September 11, 2018 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) released the following statement from President Sean McGarvey on the 17th anniversary of 9/11:

“Today, we reflect on the unspeakable tragedy of September 11, 2001, that killed thousands of innocent Americans including over 60 members of North America’s Building Trades Unions. On this solemn 17th anniversary, we remember those who perished and salute our members who were amongst the first and second responders. Our members, police officers and firemen bravely rushed down to the sites to assist and selflessly stayed for months, risking their own health to help in the rescue and recovery. We honor their acts of heroism, patriotism and sacrifice to help fellow Americans in a time of great need.

“The innocent souls who perished that sad day and those who rushed to their aid represent the best values of our beloved nation. The professionals of the building trades and first responders answered the call with passion, integrity and patriotism. That spirit is the true American spirit, and it is the spirit of the building trades on this day and every day. As our nation comes together and remember the sacrifice of so many, our hearts again go out to the victims of this horrific day in our nation’s history.”
