NABTU STATEMENT COMMENDING HOUSE VOTE TO REPEAL OF “CADILLAC” TAX

Washington, DC – July 18, 2019 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) issued the following statement by President Sean McGarvey commending the passage of H.R. 748, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act:

“We commend the House of Representatives’ long overdue repeal of the “Cadillac” tax. Quality health care is not simply a benefit for employees, it is an investment in employees, and employers should be credited – not taxed – for this investment. On a daily basis, our over 3 million members risk their physical well-being building America’s infrastructure. These men and women and their families critically rely upon and deserve solid health coverage in times of need. Unfortunately, this misguided tax was already harming their plans and coverage options, so we appreciate Congress finally taking action to lift this unnecessary burden for our workers and their employers. We now urge the Senate to heed the will of America’s hardworking families and pass this repeal as soon as possible.”
