NABTU Applauds the Announcement of Palisades Nuclear Plant Conditional Loan Guarantee

Washington, D.C. – March 27, 2024 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:

“The Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office announcement of conditional commitment for a substantial $1.52 billion loan guarantee for the restarting of the Palisades Nuclear Plant is a massive step forward for both clean energy in this country and for hardworking union members across the state of Michigan.

“Our members have long operated the Palisades Plant prior to its decommissioning, and through strong partnership with Holtec Palisades, LLC, they will now be able to showcase why they are the greatest skilled tradespeople in this country as they work to be the first to recommission a shut-down nuclear power plant in the U.S. We applaud both the Department of Energy for their support of this project and our partners at Holtec, who in conjunction with top-tier technical knowledge have shown a steadfast commitment to local communities, local union workforces, and the pathways to the middle-class union jobs provide.”
