NABTU Welcomes Final CHIPS Act Guidance Released by U.S. Department of Commerce
Washington, D.C. – March 03, 2023 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement welcoming the first Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the CHIPS and Science Act announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce:
“Last year, with the support of North America’s Building Trades Unions, Congress passed historic, bipartisan, job-creating legislation to spur the development of critical manufacturing facilities throughout the United States. Signed into law by President Biden, the CHIPS and Science Act will usher in a new generation of technologies critical to our nation’s global economic competitiveness and national security. We welcome the final guidance issued earlier this week by the U.S. Department of Commerce that provides a clear roadmap for successful and sustainable implementation of this legislation.
“This final guidance affirms Congressional priorities and intent regarding procurement, workforce development, and basic standards in the construction industry. We are prepared to meet this moment and look forward to further engagement with project sponsors in the months and years ahead as the skilled men and women of North America’s Building Trades Unions, along with our contractor partners, stand ready to serve them and the communities where these transformative projects will be built.”
