NABTU Statement Supporting Bicameral and Bipartisan Passage of CHIPS Act

Washington, D.C. – July 28, 2022 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:

“North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the bipartisan Senate-approved CHIPS and Science Act.

“As we have said before, this critical legislation will jump-start hundreds of thousands of careers in construction and fund the building of essential infrastructure for America’s economic growth, national security, and supply chain reinforcement to maintain U.S. global competitiveness.

“From the start of this bill, NABTU worked with both sides of the aisle to secure prevailing wage requirements so that construction workers can be guaranteed well-deserved middle class family-sustaining wages and benefits, and we hail the inclusion of this key provision in its final passage. We commend Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Schumer and all members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate who prioritized workers and America’s future by supporting this legislation.

“Having delivered the deciding votes in the Senate and House, now the hardworking members of the building trades stand ready to go to work on behalf of their country and deliver this legislation to President Biden’s desk.”
