NABTU STATEMENT REGARDING SOUTH FORK WIND
Washington, D.C. – September 18, 2023 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement regarding Ørsted’s South Fork Wind project:
“North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) once again would like to affirm our support and appreciation for Ørsted and its unwavering commitment to creating family-sustaining union jobs in Connecticut and beyond. Their investment in, and commitment to, the communities in which they have begun operations will provide local residents generational opportunities to participate in the emergence of an industry and technologies that will be a key part of our domestic energy future.
“NABTU and its affiliated unions are proud to support Ørsted in this endeavor by supplying the best craftworkers in the world. Our members and contractor partners have spent years preparing for this moment, ready to deliver the qualified workforce required to complete these critical projects safely and on schedule. It is deeply regretful that another labor organization, ill-prepared to meet the moment, has instead sought to undermine union employment opportunities for our members and undermine the execution of this project in a safe and timely manner. Their actions are jeopardizing not only Building Trades jobs, but future job opportunities for their own members.
“A safe and reasonable path forward has been presented to the ILA. We call upon this organization to immediately end their threats and obstruction and to work in good faith to bring this dispute to an end.”
