NABTU Statement On Power For the People Act

Washington, D.C. – January 16, 2026 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:

“NABTU thanks Senator Van Hollen for introducing S.3682, Power for the People Act.  This bill promotes responsible data center development by prioritizing worker protections for the construction of these mega projects. Senator Van Hollen has set clear, common-sense standards that NABTU believes should be widely supported and adopted by any data center developer seeking to deliver safe, high-quality projects that reflect community input.”

“Policies included in this legislation support local workforce development and the deployment of the skilled trades necessary for success. Any region counting on data center development to spur economic growth, ensure community stability, and provide lasting value cannot accept anything less. Time and again, these standards for the construction sector have managed budgets, ensured timely completion, and safely delivered critical and complex energy and infrastructure projects for investors, developers, contractors, and blue-collar workers alike.

“NABTU will continue working with all data center stakeholders, partners, policymakers, and construction industry allies to safely and responsibly deliver these projects throughout the United States.”
