NABTU STATEMENT ON NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK 2026
Washington, D.C. — April 28, 2026 — Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey released the following statement:
“During National Apprenticeship Week, NABTU recognizes the life‑changing impact of Registered Apprenticeships and the critical role our members play in building a skilled, safe, and reliable workforce for America’s future.
“For generations, NABTU’s Registered Apprenticeship system has set the gold standard for workforce development. Our debt-free, proven pathways change lives by preparing workers for family-sustaining middle‑class careers through hands-on earn-as-you-learn training, technical excellence, and the highest jobsite safety standards.
“Building Trades apprentices are helping construct the backbone of America, from roads and bridges to hospitals, manufacturing facilities, and modern energy systems. NABTU trains seven out of every ten construction apprentices in the United States, with over 300,000 Registered Apprentices nationwide. As the private and public sectors invest in infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy, Registered Apprenticeships remain one of the most effective tools for delivering projects safely, efficiently, and with lasting economic value in rural and urban communities.
“During National Apprenticeship Week and every day, we remain committed to protecting and expanding our proven workforce development model and standing with the apprentices building America’s future.”
