NABTU STATEMENT HONORING THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY
Washington, D.C. – June 6, 2024 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:
“On this solemn day, the 80th anniversary of D-Day, North America’s Building Trades Unions honor the bravery, sacrifice, and unity that marked one of the most critical moments in history.
“The courageous soldiers, airmen, and sailors who stormed those Normandy beaches came from diverse backgrounds but came together to defend democracy and liberate those oppressed by tyranny. As we reflect on the legacy of the greatest generation, we recognize that democracy worldwide remains under threat. The principles they fought for—freedom, equality, and justice—are still challenged today by forces of authoritarianism, division, and intolerance.
“Let us all in this generation show our respect to the greatest generation by standing up for our democracy to ensure the ideals they bravely battled for continue to be not only remembered but realized for all.”
