NABTU STATEMENT ON 21ST CENTURY ROAD HOUSING ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – March 11, 2026 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey released the following statement:

“NABTU thanks Senators Scott and Warren for their bipartisan effort to address America’s housing crisis while protecting the wages of the men and women who build our homes.

“For decades, low-road contractors in the residential sector have driven down pay for America’s construction workers under the false claim of cutting costs. Lowering costs for homeowners should never fall on the backs of the workers building their homes. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act is a step in the right direction because it ensures all construction workers — union and non-union — earn no less than the local prevailing wage on projects funded by this bill.

“Prevailing wage means construction workers can put food on the table, fuel their trucks, and afford to live in the communities where they build. NABTU looks forward to working with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to advance prevailing wage and other labor standards to ensure our housing solutions respect the skilled workforce that makes them possible.”
