NABTU COMMENDS BIPARTISAN DEFEAT OF WAGE CUTTING AMENDMENT

Washington, D.C. – June 8, 2021 – North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement commending the rejection of Sen. John Cornyn’s proposed amendment to the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act:

“Today, the US Senate demonstrated solid bipartisan support for construction workers by rejecting Senator John Cornyn’s proposed amendment to the US Innovation and Competition Act that would have cut wages on semiconductor manufacturing construction projects funded by this legislation.

“Although the Senator’s failed attempt was an unnecessary exercise that delayed passage of this much needed and timely legislation, it is a fresh reminder to the hard-working men and women in the construction industry about who really are their champions in public office.

“We continue to be very grateful for all Senate Democrats standing with their Republican colleagues, specifically Republican Senators Blunt, Murkowski, Sullivan, Capito, Daines, Rubio and Portman, on behalf of construction’s working families.”
