Washington, D.C. – January 17, 2023

Overview

On January 17, North America’s Building Trades Unions hosted an Opportunity Pipeline Forum in Washington, D.C. with key labor and industry leaders in attendance. This forum highlighted the work being done across the U.S. to recruit the next generation of infrastructure workers in order to meet the increased workforce demand stemming from President Biden’s historic federal investments. In particular, the forum focused on the newly-released study by the Institute for Construction Employment Research, “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives in the Construction Trades.”

Forum participants included TradesFutures Executive Director, Nicole Schwartz; Ironworkers International Director of Diversity, Vicki O’Leary; Los Angeles & Orange Counties B.C.T.C. Executive Secretary, Chris Hannan; AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, Fred Redmond; UA Local 1 member, Judaline Cassidy; and many more key leaders within the industry and Labor Movement.

After this forum, NABTU plans to embark on a nationwide tour to training centers across the U.S. to amplify the opportunity on the horizon and the important role the building trades training model plays in building the Infrastructure Generation.
