I bet neither of these gentlemen have any callouses. I struggle to believe they understand, can relate to, or honestly have any idea, what its like to be a trades person. If they did, if they had any idea of their audience. If they read the room at all, I dont think this would be the picture that accompanied the post. And because of the fact that this seems so tone deaf, it made me question some things. Like, what do you mean NABTU is going to spend billions on recruiting and training trades people? I mean, if I want a house built, I have to pay qualified people to do it. If there is more demand than supply of qualified workers, than prices go up. Companies can charge more, pay their qualified people more and train and recruit new talent. All of which is essentially paid for by the consumer. But it feels like OPENAI does not want to do that. Feels like they want the NABTU to fund the increase in recruiting, training, ultimately so they wont have to bear that cost. Maybe I am just cynical. Maybe I am just biased. I mean when I see people who look like they have never stepped on a job site, I struggle to believe they have any idea what it is to be a trades person, what trades persons struggle with. I mean its a conglomeration of building unions which means its funded by union dues. So in a sense, trades people are paying to recruit more trades people and train them so that OPENAI does not have to bear those costs in order to build what they are most certainly going to build regardless of this "deal". It also means that it will undercut the supply and demand equation. Means more people so better supply and less demand which means if you are a trades person, this deal essentially works hard to ensure you dont get paid more. Maybe I am just crazy, biased, and ignorant. That being said, multiple things can be true.
