NABTU STATEMENT ON INDEPENDENCE DAY 2026, AMERICA’S 250th BIRTHDAY
WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 4, 2026 – Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey issued the following statement:
“As America celebrates its 250th birthday, we reflect not only on our nation’s history, but also on the generations of Building Trades members who have helped build it every step of the way. For more than 117 years, North America’s Building Trades Unions have proudly upheld the enduring belief that the dignity of work, opportunity, and the promise of a better future should be within reach for every American. From the roads and bridges that connect our communities to the power plants, data centers, and critical infrastructure that fuel our economy, unionized tradeswomen and tradesmen have built, and continue to build, the foundation of this country.
“On this historic Independence Day, we honor the generations of Americans who came before us, especially those who journeyed from around the world in search of opportunity and helped build this great nation through their hard work and determination. We celebrate the countless Americans whose courage, sacrifice, innovation, and labor have shaped our country’s history, from those who secured our freedom to those who built our communities and powered our progress. We pay tribute to the generations of Building Trades members who have contributed to that legacy, recognize those carrying that legacy forward today, and reaffirm our commitment to building a stronger, safer, and more prosperous America for the next 250 years.”
